Lorin Leithead

With more than 20 years in the healthcare field, Lorin Leithead is an accomplished healthcare professional. Beginning as a CNA with boots on the ground in the hospital, he saw firsthand the challenges patients and providers face. After graduating from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing, he worked as a registered nurse (RN) in the ICU, among other roles in the hospital setting. Later, with a Master’s in Nursing from Brigham Young University, he worked as a nurse practitioner in family practice and urgent care. Now Lorin works in a specialty group for gastroenterology.

Through his various roles, Lorin has had exposure to all aspects of medicine, both as a provider and as a recipient of medical care, giving him the unique perspective to understand the disconnect between provider and patient. His time, position, and visionary perspective have allowed him to develop a process to better support patients and providers. This vision has contributed to the development of Health Care Basics (HCB). His aim with HCB is to empower patients in their care and healing by providing them education and information that is clear and accessible.

HCB facilitates automation and efficiency for providers and staff, cutting down on strain and redundancy, allowing more time for providers to address specific patient concerns. This type of service is central to Lorin’s purpose as a healthcare provider.

On a personal level, Lorin is a devoted husband and father. He loves games of all types—table top and video—and particularly likes to play them with his son. He loves nature and travel and has an insatiable desire to see new places.

He is dedicated to helping the patients have an overall better health care experience. He is passionate about not only helping his patients heal but also helping them feel understood and valued. As a provider he personally sees patients who don’t fully understand why they are there, what they should bring with them and what to expect during the appointment. His goal is to help the patient more fully under the health care system and feel listened to and better prepared for their appointments.
